Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions

  • What are the scholarship application deadlines?
    There is no application deadline. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and scholarships will be awarded monthly. A total of twelve (12) $2,500 scholarships will be awarded throughout the year.
  • Are non-US citizens eligible to apply?
    Yes. If all other scholarship requirements are met, non-US citizens are eligible to apply.
  • Are incoming freshman eligible to apply?
    Unfortunately, incoming freshmen/high school students are not eligible for the SBB Research Group Foundation STEM Scholarship. However, we strongly encourage you to apply once you are a full-time student at a United States college with college a GPA.
  • Are graduate students eligible to apply?
    Yes. If you are enrolled as a full-time graduate student, you are eligible to apply. When filling out the “Current Year in School” section of your application, please specify [year in graduate school] graduate student.
  • Are part-time students eligible to apply?
    No. Applicants must be currently enrolled as full-time students at their university.
  • When are students considered to be “enrolled”?
    Enrolled means you have registered for classes after accepting admission and fulfilling all necessary admission requirements.
  • Is there an application fee?
    There are no fees associated with this scholarship.
  • Where do I submit my essay?
    Your essay must be submitted as part of your online application, which can be found here. As the last step of the application, you can type (or paste) your ~500-word essay, using the text box provided.
  • Can students apply for the STEM Scholarship multiple times?
    Yes. Students that have not previously won the SBB Research Group STEM Scholarship are able to re-apply and must submit a different essay for each subsequent application.
  • How will I know if I was chosen to be awarded a scholarship?
    Students will receive an email from a member of the SBB Research Group STEM Scholarship Committee notifying them that they have been selected as a scholarship recipient, at which point they will have one (1) week to accept the award.
